Open Garden
April 17, 2010
9:30 am - 2 pm
Experience the splendor of
heritage roses in a unique 19th Century setting!
The
Sacramento Historic Rose Garden will be in full bloom
for the annual Open Garden Event, Saturday April 17,
2010 from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm. The Open Garden will
feature free tours of the beautiful gardens located
within the Sacramento Historic City Cemetery, 10th and
Broadway, Sacramento, California. The sale of rooted
rose cuttings and snacks and a raffle will raise funds
for the maintenance of the gardens.
The Historic Rose Garden is
a collection of over 400 ‘found’ roses collected from
cemeteries and other sites where the original plants
were planted 100 years or more ago. The Historic Rose
Garden goal is to save the old cultivars, since they are
disappearing from the sites where they where originally
planted. The collection includes many chinas and teas
along with other heritage roses and some early hybrid
teas. The cemetery is a unique site, with 19th Century
monuments, raised plots under ancient trees and space
for the roses to grow to their natural size.
This exciting event is an
opportunity for rose lovers of all types to socialize.
The Heritage Rose Group, the
Old City Cemetery Committee and City of Sacramento
sponsor this event.
Check the website,

and activities.
The Historic Rose Garden is one of three gardens located
in Sacramento’s Historic City Cemetery, 1000 Broadway,
Sacramento and is supported by the Old City Cemetery
Committee, Inc., a non-profit organization.
